That does not look like Hay to me. It looks like hard straw, that is used for animals to lay upon and to absorb pee and poop. It is easier to scoop up dirty hay and replace it with clean one than to constantly clean the floor, but it won't be eaten by anything. it is hard and has no nutritionus value anymore. It is completely dried up. Old school farmers use everything they harvest or atleast aspire to not waste anything of anything. But nothing is going to eat straw. it has other uses on farms. Hay is rarely ever left on the field. Other animals would eat it up or it might get wet from surprise rain. Hay is more like a cheap crop that supports your/your neighbors farm animals through times were grass is not available or in too little of quantity.
